A HUGE cargo vessel almost collided with a life-size Antony Gormley statue yesterday after it ran aground off the Kent coast. The UK coastguard were called to the scene shortly after 3am after reports that the 75-foot cargo ship Islay Trader had dragged anchor between 30m and 50m from shore. It came within a few feet of the Antony Gromley cast iron sculpture, which erected in July as part of his ‘Another Time’ series and shows a figure on the chalk bed in front of the Turner Contemporary in Margate, Kent.

A THREE-wheeled van driven by Del Boy and Rodney Trotter in Only Fools and Horses has fetched £36,000 at auction. The 1972 yellow Reliant Rebel Supervan III was bought by the BBC when the comedy began in 1981. It was one of a fleet of six used during the show’s 22-year run. The van’s bodywork had been painted to appear scuffed and has the words “Paris, New York, Peckham” and “Trotters Independent Traders” on the side.

A STREET has been declared a no-go area for refuse collectors - because of giant rats "the size of chihuahuas". Union bosses have ordered refuse removal teams not to enter the area - after they were overrun by vermin the size of small dogs. Residents in Earl Street in Scotstoun in Glasgow's west end claim the lack of action has left the street a mess. Bin officials claim the move is to avoid compromising the safety of their workers.
